How to build a lifting Portal 400 meters deep?

Over the past years, the new tunnel for the Vienna – Grass rail connection – has been under construction. De Kok Staalbouw has designed, detailed, manufactured and installed several pieces of custom-made transport- and lifting equipment for this project.

Last week, De Kok Staalbouw installed a mobile gantry crane at a depth of 400 meters into the mountains of the Austrian ‘Semmering’. This four legged mobile gantry crane is mainly used for picking up and loading the concrete elements on the underground railway carriages. The lifting capacity of the crane is 40 tonnes and runs on individually propelled pneumatic tires.
