De Kok Staalbouw was responsible for the steel structure of the Electrabel power plant on the Maasvlakte.
In collaboration with Visser & Smit Bouw, De Kok Staalbouw was responsible for
the engineering, procurement, work planning, and execution of the steel construction and facade and roof cladding. The plant consists of: the power block (boiler house and turbine building), the flue gas scrubber, the cooling water system, a fly-ash silo, a gypsum silo, a water treatment building, an administration building, switching buildings, and other buildings required for a coal- and biomass-fired power plant.
In addition to the steel structure, De Kok Staalbouw produced, supplied, and installed various stairways, railings, platforms, and roof and wall cladding.
The job site was at the current EMO (European Mass Transhipment Company) site on the Maasvlakte, sandwiched between the Beerkanaal and Amazonehaven. The site was completely free of all infrastructure when EMO gave the green light to begin. During construction, care had to be taken to accommodate EMO vehicle traffic, shipping traffic, and the adjacent Gasunie peak shaving installation.
